I’ve seen a lot of people that only know how to be like a lion. They accomplish an awful lot. Through pure force and determination, they set a goal and then run it down. We really owe a lot to theses lions. And the truth is we all have to be the lion occasionally. But boy, can that ever be exhausting. Not only can it be exhausting to summon up our own inner lion, it can be exhausting just to watch others fully embrace their carnivorous inner beast.
However, I think the lamb in each of us is severely undervalued. Not everything always has to be a fight. Sometimes saying less says so much more. Sometimes extending grace to others can be the most powerful thing you can do. Sometimes it’s best just to let things lie.
There’s been a lot of lions and a lot of lambs that had great impacts on the course of human history. The best impacts usually come from individuals that know how to best draw on both animals. And I fully believe the lamb in each of us can accomplish immeasurably more than the lion.
